The BSG HandCraft booth at this year’s HomebrewCon in Baltimore will be pouring some homebrews from our staff, each highlighting different malts.
Cody Myers-Miller, BSG’s Packaging Manager, chose a Northern-style English brown ale as inspiration, showcasing Crisp malts and enhanced with a healthy charge of oats in the mash.

(5 gallons, assuming 75% efficiency)
Target OG: 1.051
Target IBU: 25-26
Grain bill:
7 lbs Crisp Finest Maris Otter (76%)
1 lb Crisp Brown Malt (11%)
1 lb flaked oats (11%)
4 oz Crisp Chocolate Malt (3%)
Single infusion mash at 152°-154°F
Boil:
1.5 oz East Kent Goldings @ 60′
1 oz East Kent Goldings @ flameout
Cold side:
Cool wort to 64-66°F
Aerate/oxygenate & pitch with Safale S-04
