As brewers we all know that cleaning comes with the territory. But that doesn’t mean we can’t get a little help along the way. BSG HandCraft recently added a new product from Craft Meister, called Growler Tabs that look to do just that.
A little background on Craft Meister. Craft Meister is a division of National Chemical, who are the folks that make Craft Meister Alkaline and Oxygen Brewery Wash products in addition to the well known BTF Iodophor. The takeaway for me is that this is a well established company employing trained and qualified chemists.
Back to the Growler Tabs. Cleaning growlers can be a little pain in the you know what. Often, I worry about either adding too little or too much cleaner not only because of converting dosage amount for the size of the growler but what measuring tools I have around. Where did those measuring spoons go to! Adding cleaners can sometime be messy too, especially without a funnel to fit in the narrow opening of the growler.
Growler Tabs address these difficulties by packing the cleaner into a convenient tablet, which is pre-measured and easily fits in the narrow opening of a growler.
Directions are simply:
1. Fill the growler with warm water.
2. Add 1 tablet and let dissolve.
3. Soak for 10 minutes.
4. Empty growler and rinse thoroughly.
The directions do indicate for heavily soiled growlers to use 2 tablets and/or extend the soaking time.
Having a few dirty growlers around, I tested them (multiple times since writing this blog) and found the Growlers Tabs to work quite well as advertised. I especially liked that I didn’t have to agitate or use brushes. It was very simple and the best part was I didn’t have to rinse off and dry items like a funnel, spoon or brush.
