What was the first beer that made a big impression on you? Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, 1988. I found this beer just after drinking 4 years worth of large American brewed lagers in college. I didn’t understand what hops were, but instantly wanted more

What is your favorite beer or beer style? Favorite styles – Düsseldorf Altbier + APA
What is your favorite food-beer pairing? A classic West Coast APA served alongside a perfectly grilled veggie shish kabob
What activities do you enjoy in your free time? I get out and enjoy hiking & camping, disc golf, playing & coaching soccer, and home brewing from time to time
Share a food recipe that pairs well with a certain beer style: Phil’s Summertime Grilled Veggie Shish Kabob with American Pale Ale
Marinade:
¼ cup light soy sauce
¾ cup olive oil
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon parsley
1 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon oregano
1.5 teaspoons ground pepper
2 cloves crushed garlic
1 tablespoon honey
Veggies:
Cherry tomatoes – whole
Japanese eggplant – thinly sliced (optional)
Mushrooms – sliced
Onions – sliced
Yellow pepper – sliced
Yellow Squash – cubed
Zucchini – cubed
Directions:
Open a West Coast APA, or opt for a Lagunitas Day Time (if you can find it)
MARINADE: Blend all ingredients together in blender for ½ minute
Pour marinade into a zip lock bag with all ingredients and refrigerate for 1 hour
Arrange veggies on skewers, grill on medium flame – turn and brush with marinade for 10 minutes until cooked
Open another beer (dig deep for a Mad River Steelhead Extra Pale Ale) and enjoy
Makes 12 skewers; Serves 6
